V

Dear readers,

Forester, Emma and Derek ran down the hallway as quick as they could get. They split up and search for an alternative route. There were many doors along the hallway, but none of the doors budged. The screeching sound was heard again. This time, it was louder and longer. All of a sudden, the sound came to a pause and the whole place was silent. The three of them paused and looked at the far end of the hallway from whence they came. The same figure holding the enormous axe was standing there, looking straight at them.

“Did he just bloody smile?” Forester commented as he walked towards Emma.

“I don’t think that’s important. We need a way out of the hallway,” Derek said as he moved towards the end of the hallway. “He flings that again… We’re all served dinner.”

“He can’t be a cannibal, right?” Emma asked.

Derek pointed at the figure, and Emma glanced at the figure. There was something shining near its mouth… “Did you say you found a way out?” Emma asked as she hastened her footsteps towards Derek.

Dead end… The end… That was what awaited the three. They stood, back leaning against the wall. They gave a sigh simultaneously. The axe-wielding person raised his axe above his head. Derek was amazed how big the hallway was. It could even fit in that axe vertically.

“What did I tell you, Derek? The words meant for us. The seven, it means the seven of us. The souls gladly welcome us to their stupid spiritual world.”

“Don’t tell me,” Derek interrupted. “Till the seventh is gone actually means that… every single one of us…”

“Dead?” Emma exclaimed. “What? I’m too young to die!”

The figure was already halfway walking towards them. It was very strong of him, to carry that axe vertically and walked for so long, holding it in that position. Derek closed his eyes as he heard the heavy footsteps approaching him. He could also hear Forester trying to calm Emma, who was panicking and in tears already. What’s the use of calming people who were to die?

“Derek,” a soft whisper said in his ears. “The secret stairs to the third floor is just there. Use it, before Regg lowers his axe.”

The axe-wielding figure became furious all of a sudden. He roared and then landed his axe. Derek opened his eyes just to see the axe coming down. Forester and Emma were all silent as they looked up at the lowering axe.

“Thank you… but I guess you were too late…” Derek murmured as he smiled.
